Every photographer has his or

At Faxon Photography - we shoot RAW
and post process every photo that we take on an individual basis. Most studios
do little to no post processing of proofs. In fact - a lot of studios don't even
bother to shoot in the RAW format.
What does this mean? As a photographer in today's digital
age, we have the option of shooting in camera JPEG's or in another format known
as RAW. In camera JPEG's take up much less space as the files are highly
compressed. But that's not the big disadvantage to shooting JPEG. The biggest
disadvantage is that the files are processed by the camera. Once this process
has taken place - the file has lost some of it's information or integrity
forever. However - when shooting in the RAW format, (as we always do) - all of
the information that the sensor reads is stored in a RAW file that can be easily
altered at any time. The exposure can be corrected or tweaked. The white balance
can be easily adjusted or changed at any time. Once we get the RAW files into
our powerful computers at the studio - we can then make as many adjustments as
we need to without harming the integrity of the RAW file. We not only maintain
the ability to make adjustments to the image at any time, but we also always
have that RAW file untouched so that if the need arises - we can return to it at
anytime.
We firmly believe that every photo
that is worthy of showing a customer is also worthy of being adjusted to look
it's best. Here is an example of
a photo as it is produced by the camera, (left) and after being processed in our
studio, (right).
Notice how much richer, more vibrant, colorful, detailed and also how the
processed photo has a 3-D look that adds depth or dimension.

The above example represents our normal processing routine
for most photos. Now let's have a little more fun.
There are many, many techniques that can be used to alter the
look or feel of a photo. Some images
are much more powerful in either a rich contrasty black and white or maybe even
a sepia tone. -
